Dr. Veronica Neumann and Dr. Tom Hatch from NCIC/SNCC volunteered at the Seattle Marathon that took place on November 27, 2022. This was the sixteen-year our doctors have participated.
This year was particularly remarkable because of Covid and there was a new race course and treatment environment. The new course allowed for proper COVID-19 protocols where runners could spread out. All vendors and services were located outside this year, and doctors were stationed in the tents near the finish line at Gas Works Park.
Volunteers physicians included Dr. Veronica Neumann, and Dr Tom Hatch, and Bastyr student volunteer, Devin McKee. Volunteers utilized Kinesio Taping, acupuncture/dry needling, soft tissue release, muscle energy stretching, spinal manipulation, and more.
This was Dr. Veronica Neumann’s sixth year volunteering at the marathon. She stated, “It was impressive to see so much adaptability at the marathon- from runners, staff, and volunteers. The weather was windy, cold, and rainy, but that didn’t stop people from pushing forward.”
It was also Dr. Tom Hatch's second year volunteering at the marathon. She commented, “After a year hiatus, it was great to see so many athletes show up to the event.”
